Welcome to Lenasia Athletics Club (LAC)

Established in 1984 by Siva Veeran, Lenasia Athletics Club (LAC) has a rich history of promoting fitness, health, and camaraderie among runners of all ages and abilities. From humble beginnings to becoming a thriving community, LAC has been at the heart of Lenasia’s running scene for over 40 years.

Our Mission

Siva’s vision was to provide a local platform for runners to affiliate, promote sport among youth, and set an example for future generations. Today, we continue to uphold this mission, welcoming runners of all levels to join our community

Our Story

It all began when Siva Veeran participated in the 1984 Kellogg’s Executive Team Relay, sparking his passion for road running. Alongside fellow enthusiasts Peter Bolston, Jerry Ghany, Vassie Subramoney, and Ahmed Karolia, Siva envisioned an independent club in Lenasia. Despite initial skepticism, Siva and Vassie persevered, seeking recognition from the Transvaal Road Runners Association (TRRA).
With the help of like-minded individuals, LAC was formally established, meeting the required conditions: a constitution, headquarters, 50 paid-up members, office-bearers, and club colors. The first office-bearers were Ali Springfield (chairperson) and Khatija Veeran (secretary/treasurer). Siva even registered his family members to meet the membership requirement!
The club’s colors – white, blue, and red – symbolize neutrality, brotherhood, and the spirit of running. Overcoming obstacles and skepticism, LAC grew in strength, thanks to Siva and Vassie’s dedication.
